The Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure, which is considering our Home Rule Petition, now H.4272, will hold a public hearing on the bill this coming Monday, January 27, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM in the Gardner Auditorium at the Massachusetts State House.

The Selectboard is Submitting Letter of Support

The Great Barrington Selectboard voted to send a letter of support for the Home Rule Petition on horse racing in GB to the legislative hearing with Selectboard member Leigh Davis. She will be representing the Selectboard at the Committee hearing in support of H.4272.

Residents Also Need to Show our Support

In order to demonstrate a unified voice of local support for the Home Rule Petition, we need residents and business owners from Great Barrington and throughout South County to support the bill by personally submitting written testimony at the hearing, or submitting it via email, and/or attending the hearing in a show of solidarity. Below is a template for the written testimony, with email addresses and directions for driving to Gardner Auditorium.

If you have any questions, or want to let us know that you sent in your written testimony, please contact us:

ATTENDING THE HEARING:

If you are able to travel to Boston to stand in solidarity with other concerned citizens, please do. The more people that make the effort to travel the distance to the State House the more the legislators take notice. There will be key speakers endorsing the home rule petition; what we need are concerned citizens to stand in support of them.

WRITE A SUPPORT LETTER TO HAND IN

In addition to your presence, everyone including speakers, should provide written testimony as to why you support the home rule petition. These letters will be handed in and filed with the committee. You can follow the sample format below that has instructions and key points, then print out and bring with you.

CARPOOLING FROM BIG Y in LEE

For those that would like to car pool to Boston, we will be meeting at the Big Y parking lot in Lee, by the entrance to the turnpike at 10am. We hope that there will be at least 4 people who are willing to drive if we have a good turn out of people going. When you enter the Big Y parking lot, please park facing the road.

STATE HOUSE: ALL MEET UP AT ELEVATORS AT 12:30 PM

If you drive independently we will be meeting everyone to gather before the hearing to receive ID’s that will help the legislators identify us together during the hearing, and get all of us oriented to the process. We will meet at the elevators on the floor that you will be exiting to get to Gardner Auditorium.

BEST PARKING GARAGE and ENTRANCE

The best parking garage and State House entrance to get you right to the location: Boston Common Parking Garage, 0 Charles Street, Boston, MA 02116. Park closest to State House entrance. When you walk out of the garage at the State House exit you will be facing Beacon Street. Walk up Beacon Street to the right and you will see the State House on your left at the top of the hill. Follow the sign to the “General Hooker entrance” to State House. Proceed through the General Hooker Entrance. Pass through the security checkpoint. Take a right down the hallway. Take the elevator on the left down to Floor GA. Gardner Auditorium is directly ahead of you. We will meet at these elevators.
